Plot[]

Walking into Colonel Ma's office, several PLA members stand by as their leader Lieutenant General Liu demands to speak with the colonel. Senior Colonel Zhang also demands to know what the confused colonel has been up to, but Liu orders Zhang to be at ease since he will handle the talking. The angered Liu informs Ma that earlier that morning, the Chinese State Council Ministry of State Security's 8th Bureau Assistant Chief Wang Jinyong visited him concerning matters of national security. Ma asks what the MSS could possibly want, with Liu furiously reminding him that he would not be meeting him if he had already known that. Holding the briefing, Second Lieutenant Yeyin reads it aloud that the German national defense company Reinbach A.G. claims that they have irrefutable evidence of the PRC's military being involved in the theft of Reinbach's avionics data. Liu adds that he was informed that Operation Reinbach ended two months ago, and the shocked Ma responds that the operation had no mistakes.

As Liu insults him because there clearly was a mistake, Yeyin politely asks to continue reading the report, and she reads that the hacker who attacked Annenheim Distributions' corporate server is an active member of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. Summarizing the evidence, Liu states that the PLA used a corporation in Leiden as a stepping-stone because the attack two months ago occurred using the same company's server, and Reinbach concluded correctly that Annenheim Distributions is a front company for the PLA's GSD 2nd Department. Retorting back respectfully, Ma proclaims that the information is simply untrue since his unit had bribed a Reinbach engineer and that Annenheim was simply used to conceal their dealings with the inside engineer. When Ma finishes that the claim concerning the last infiltration via Annenheim is untrue, Liu replies that the truth is not important since Reinbach came to the correct conclusion despite the false reasoning.

Liu angrily stares down at Ma as Yeyin says that Reinbach is willing to avoid going public with the news if they receive monetary compensation. Also glaring at Ma, Zhang requests the details of Ma's operation since a double agent may be involved. Still shocked at the whole accusation, Ma claims that his operation's objective was to infiltrate a group of counterfeiters to understand their methods and it is independent of the accusation. When Ma defends Li Xinlin by saying that she is not a traitor and even received a medal for meritorious service, Liu cuts him off to elaborate that the MSS is using the debacle to conduct an internal investigation of the military intelligence service and they must end the situation lest they get purged. In order to prevent any investigation on them, Liu says that Annenheim Distributions should have no ties to them, meaning that Li Xinlin does not exist. Excusing the soldiers, the lieutenant general asserts that he will somehow deflect the MSS for the time being.

In Roanapur while driving his car, the embarrassed Benny tells Jane that her phone is ringing, asking her not to perform fellatio on him as he drives. Jane then rummages through her bag for it, picking it up to hear a concerned Feng Yifei on the other line. Hearing that she is worried about her work, Jane notifies her that she is fired. Smugly smiling, she advises Feng to avoid using textbook methods since it easily exposes where she trained, shocking the hacker. Finishing that Feng should be careful of holes that other people dug, Jane gleefully warns Feng to run or else she will die, breaking and tossing the cellphone out the window. Falling onto her knees as she hangs up the telephone, Feng sweats profusely and feels that she is going to vomit. Frightened by the motel room's telephone suddenly ringing, she hesitates but picks it up. Admitting that he does not have much time and is making a courtesy call, Ma asks Feng if she is a traitor to the People's Republic of China since that is what the higher-ups are claiming about her.

Rejecting the claim, she clarifies that Jane and her friends set her up, and Ma assures her that he believes her but says that the General Staff Department is nevertheless doing everything to expunge the incident. The confused Feng asks him what he means, and he states that he will privately inform her family of her achievements and move her family into an upscale apartment in Shanghai using the 2nd Department's funds, saying that he will throw in a Mercedes automobile. Giving a true answer, Ma posits that she will willingly fall in Roanapur for being deemed a traitor and to preserve the PRC's peace, making Feng's jaw drop in utter shock.
